What to look for in your next automotive CRM solution?
First of the myth when it comes to automotive CRM solutions is the price tag, don't believe the old saying of if I pay more per month, it must be a better solution. Dead wrong, some of the highest priced tagged CRM solutions are some of the worst developed software in the market. In today's struggling economy it is shocking to me the vendors are asking these kind of price tags when it comes to automotive CRM systems. Stay away from outdated technology, next time you see a vendor representative please ask the question "what kind of database is supporting your CRM". If he has no idea what you are talking about you should reconsider the product, when a sales person with absolutely no computer background walk into your office trying to sell you something he has no knowledge of is a dangerous thing. Make sure your system is supported by at least second generation database such as MySQL or Oracle, because the database that was first introduced in the 70s are all flat filing system which is no longer supported in today's applications. Only little automotive software still using this technology making it not compatible with any other software and systems. It is an I.T nightmare for your I.T support staff, and future growth and developments.
Try to use a desktop based system, versus a web based portal. A web based system is more vulnerable to break ins, attacks, hackers versus desktop application. A software with installation file will provide you extra layer of security and protection when it comes to cyber attacks. A desktop application will also not rely on page refresh every time you are interact with it, making the system a lot faster in performance. Another down fall of web based system is it will require certain plug-ins for certain browsers to display the information properly. And worst of all, the system will look slightly different from browser to browser because of the incompatibilities between the browser manufactures. W3C or the internet council is trying to make a universal standard for all web browsers to follow, but that is still in the process, and may be many years away from realization.
